Tecno has just announced its very first foldable smartphone, the Phantom V Fold. The announcement took place at MWC 2023, after the device has been teased a number of times lately.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold is official, the company’s first foldable smartphone

This is a book-style foldable smartphone, much like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, HONOR Magic Vs, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2, and some other phones out there. Tecno says that it used “a series of self-developed technologies, key collaborations and innovative design features” to make this phone happen.

The device is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+, which makes it the very first book-style foldable to use that chip. The phone does support 5G connectivity, and it has two SIM card slots on the inside (2x nano SIM).

It includes an “ultra-clear 5-lens photography system”

Tecno also highlighted that the phone is equipped with an “ultra-clear 5-lens photography system”, which includes a 50-megapixel main camera with “a super light-sensitive custom sensor”, in addition to two other rear cameras.

There are also two front-facing cameras included on this phone. One sits on the main, foldable display, and the other on the cover panel. In the image provided above the article, the only new image Tecno shared, you can see the camera on the main display.

A lot of info is unknown at the moment, let’s hope that will change soon

That is basically all the info that Tecno shared with us thus far. We’ve asked the company for more images of the device, and more information on it in general. If the company does end up providing it, we’ll update this article. We’re also wondering what’s the crease situation like, whether the phone folds flat, is there an IP rating, and what other specs are included… amongst other things.

It’s always nice to see new foldables appear, though. That will push the technology forward, the more OEMs end up making them, the better it is for the industry, and the end users.
