Removing apps from Launchpad on your Mac is a straightforward process, Follow these steps to delete apps you no longer need:

Open Launchpad

Click on the Launchpad icon in your Mac’s Dock. Alternatively, you can use the “F4” key (on newer Macs) or the “Launchpad” gesture (pinching your thumb and three fingers together) on the trackpad.

Find the App to Delete

 Scroll through the Launchpad grid to locate the app you want to delete. Click on the app’s icon to select it. The icons may wiggle slightly, indicating that you’re in editing mode.

Delete the App

Press and hold the “Option” (⌥) key on your keyboard. The app icons will start wiggling more prominently, and you’ll notice that some apps have an “X” icon at the top-left corner.

Click the “X” Icon

While holding down the “Option” key, click the “X” icon that appears on the top-left corner of the app you want to delete. A confirmation dialog will appear, asking if you want to delete the app.

Confirm Deletion

Click “Delete” in the confirmation dialog to confirm that you want to delete the app. The app icon will disappear from the Launchpad grid.

Exit Editing Mode

Once you’ve deleted the desired apps, press the “Option” key again to exit editing mode. The remaining app icons will stop wiggling, and you can use Launchpad as usual.

Empty Trash (Optional)

When you delete apps from Launchpad, they are moved to the Trash on your Mac. If you want to free up disk space, you can empty the Trash by right-clicking the Trash icon in the Dock and selecting “Empty Trash.”

Important Notes

  • App Deletion: Deleting apps from Launchpad only removes the app’s shortcut from the Launchpad grid. If the app was installed from the Mac App Store, the app itself will remain in the “Applications” folder on your Mac. If the app was installed from a third-party source, you may need to locate and delete its files manually.
  • App Store Apps: If you’ve installed an app from the Mac App Store and you want to completely remove it, you can do so by going to the “Applications” folder in Finder, finding the app, and moving it to the Trash.
  • Third-Party Apps: For apps installed from sources other than the App Store, you may need to follow the uninstallation instructions provided by the app’s developer. These instructions can vary, and some apps might include their own uninstaller.
